Major Milestone for Avalanche

Avalanche’s highly anticipated Avalanche9000 upgrade went live on Monday, introducing cost reductions and simplifying the launch of subnet blockchains. This upgrade, described as the network’s largest to date, aims to support hundreds of new Layer 1 chains in the coming months.

Key Improvements and Proposals

The upgrade features two significant changes: ACP-77, which eliminates the need for validators to operate on the main chain when validating subnets, and ACP-125, which reduces the base fee on Avalanche’s C-chain to 1 nAVAX. These changes lower operational costs and hardware requirements, making Avalanche more accessible for developers and projects.

Enabling Customizable Blockchain Solutions

Avalanche subnets enable tailored blockchain solutions for specific use cases, including regulatory and jurisdictional compliance. By reducing costs by 99.9%, the upgrade makes it easier for projects to bootstrap and deploy custom Layer 1 chains, marking a significant shift in the blockchain-as-a-service model.

Strengthened Ecosystem and Funding

The Avalanche Foundation recently secured $250 million in funding to support the network’s growth. With over 500 Layer 1 chains supported, Avalanche is positioned as a leader in multi-chain development. Its testnet, launched in November, attracted significant developer interest with $40 million in rewards. Avalanche9000 sets the stage for an explosion of subnet launches, reinforcing Avalanche’s position as an innovative and cost-effective blockchain solution for decentralized applications.
