Coinbase’s Layer 2 chain Base experienced a 30-minute outage early August 5.
-
Key features like deposits, withdrawals, and block production were temporarily halted.
-
The network resumed normal operations and is being monitored.
-
Surge in activity is linked to its rebranded Base App and new token launches.
Short Disruption Affects Core Functions
Base, the Ethereum Layer 2 network developed by Coinbase, temporarily stopped producing blocks early Monday. The halt affected deposits, withdrawals, and block functions for over 30 minutes.
The team identified and fixed the problem quickly. While no details were shared about the root cause, the network confirmed that it is now stable and under close monitoring.
Relaunch of Base App Behind Traffic Surge
Base has seen a big spike in traffic since it relaunched its Base App in July. The app now includes integrations with Farcaster and Zora, helping to build a decentralized social and creator economy.
New token launches on the network also exploded, jumping from just over 6,000 on July 1 to nearly 50,000 by the end of the month.
