UNI Enters the ETF Race

Asset manager Bitwise has filed a registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for a Uniswap-focused exchange-traded fund.

If approved, the Bitwise Uniswap ETF would track the price of Uniswap’s governance token, UNI. The filing marks the first formal attempt to bring UNI exposure to U.S. ETF investors.

The fund’s objective is to reflect UNI’s market value minus operational expenses. Coinbase Custody would serve as the custodian.

No Staking for Now

Bitwise said the ETF would not initially include staking or other yield-generating mechanisms. However, the firm noted that staking could be added later depending on regulatory developments.

UNI remains one of the largest DeFi tokens by market capitalization, representing governance rights over the Uniswap protocol, which enables peer-to-peer token swaps on Ethereum without intermediaries.

ETF Momentum Continues

The filing comes amid a surge of crypto ETF proposals following a more supportive regulatory climate. SEC Chair Paul Atkins has launched “Project Crypto” alongside the CFTC to modernize digital asset oversight.

Despite the milestone, UNI’s price fell sharply alongside the broader market, with Bitcoin posting one of its steepest single-day declines in recent years.
