Ethereum becomes the first non-Cosmos chain to join IBC

Interchain Labs has launched IBC Eureka, a bridge protocol designed to connect the Ethereum network to Cosmos using the second version of the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol. This marks the first time a non-Cosmos chain is integrated into the IBC ecosystem, setting the stage for greater interoperability.

IBC Eureka aims to enable quick, low-cost transactions between Ethereum and Cosmos, using the Cosmos Hub as the routing backbone. Transfer costs are expected to remain under $1, significantly improving capital efficiency across chains.

More integrations and use cases ahead

IBC Eureka will soon expand to support other networks including Solana, Base, and Arbitrum. The new infrastructure will help unify liquidity and applications across chains, addressing long-standing fragmentation in DeFi.

Early adopters of Eureka include dYdX, MANTRA, Lombard, and Babylon, with the latter highlighting the bridge's potential for bringing Bitcoin staking into Cosmos.

A step toward a unified Interchain economy

"IBC Eureka represents a steep improvement in security and programmability for cross-chain communication," said Barry Plunkett, co-CEO of Interchain Labs. "Our mission for 2025 is to expand IBC Eureka and build a truly unified Interchain economy."

The project is developed under the Interchain Foundation, a Swiss nonprofit that supports the broader Cosmos ecosystem. The Eureka launch follows successful tests between Ethereum and Cosmos conducted in late March.
