Leadership Shakeup Marks New Era for Polygon

Sandeep Nailwal, Polygon’s last remaining co-founder, has officially taken over as CEO of the Polygon Foundation. The leadership change follows the exit of co-founder Mihailo Bjelic and comes as the organization reevaluates its long-term priorities.

Strategic Realignment Away from zkEVM

Polygon will phase out its zkEVM network, citing limited traction and misalignment with the ecosystem’s needs. Resources will now shift to strengthening Polygon PoS and Agglayer, two projects seen as central to the protocol’s future growth.

Agglayer and GigaGAS Lead the Charge

Agglayer, a multi-chain aggregator, will see version 0.3 launch by the end of June. Meanwhile, the GigaGAS upgrade — designed to enable ultra-high throughput with 100,000 transactions per second — is already live on testnet and part of the long-term roadmap for the PoS chain.

Back to Founder-Led Execution

Nailwal explained that although he had previously avoided the CEO role to preserve decentralization, the foundation now needs decisive leadership. His goal is to reenergize development and deliver more impactful features at a faster pace. Projects migrating away from zkEVM will be supported with grants and a 12-month transition period.
