Major Hard Fork Since 2020 Launch
Polygon is preparing for one of its most significant network upgrades since the launch of its PoS chain: the Heimdall v2 hard fork. Set for July 10, it’s being described as the most technically complex upgrade to date.
Faster Finality, Cleaner Codebase
The upgrade is expected to reduce block finality time to around five seconds while addressing legacy technical debt from the project’s early days. This enhances the chain’s performance and long-term scalability.
Network and Token React Positively
POL, Polygon’s new token replacing MATIC, rose over 6% to $0.20 ahead of the upgrade. The wider crypto market saw more modest gains, with Polygon outperforming top-tier assets.
Validator Support and Transition Plans
Most validators have already upgraded, according to Polygon Foundation CEO Sandeep Nailwal. Execution time on mainnet is expected to be around 30 minutes, assuming no major issues.
