The move follows Ripple’s recent regulatory approval in the UK
Ripple has received preliminary approval for an Electronic Money Institution license in Luxembourg, marking another step in its expansion across European payment markets.
The approval was granted by Luxembourg’s financial regulator and came in the form of a formal green light letter. While final authorization is still subject to additional conditions, the approval positions Ripple to expand its cross-border payments services across the European Union.
With the license, Ripple aims to help financial institutions send payments using stablecoins and digital assets while staying within EU regulatory frameworks. The move builds on Ripple’s recent authorization in the UK, where the company secured both an EMI license and crypto asset registration.
Ripple says Europe’s regulatory clarity, particularly under the EU’s MiCA framework, is encouraging banks and payment providers to move from blockchain pilots to real commercial deployments. The company positions its payments platform as a full-service solution that handles compliance, blockchain infrastructure, and global settlement on behalf of customers.
To date, Ripple Payments has processed more than $95 billion in transaction volume and holds over 75 licenses and registrations worldwide. The Luxembourg approval further strengthens its regulatory footprint as it targets broader institutional adoption across Europe.
