DAO No More?
Yuga Labs has proposed a major overhaul of the ApeCoin ecosystem by shutting down the existing DAO and replacing it with a new governance body called ApeCo. CEO Greg Solano described the current DAO as “sluggish” and “unserious.”
The goal is to remove barriers to growth and focus resources on three key areas: ApeChain, Bored Ape Yacht Club, and Otherside.
New Governance Approach
ApeCo would replace all previous decision-making bodies, including working groups and tokenholder proposals. Governance would shift to milestone-based funding and tighter accountability for developers.
Yuga says this move will better support the core community and project roadmap.
Community Feedback and Context
The proposal is currently being discussed in the ApeCoin forums. While not yet an official vote, early feedback appears largely positive. The DAO, created in 2022, was intended as an independent entity, but Yuga’s influence has remained central.
ApeCoin is down 97% from its all-time high and now trades at around $0.70.
