Binance will convert its $1 billion SAFU fund entirely into bitcoin.

The move comes as BTC drops to its lowest level since November.

The exchange plans to rebalance the fund to maintain a $1B value.
SAFU Shift Signals Long-Term Conviction
Binance announced plans to convert the entire $1 billion Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) from stablecoins into bitcoin over the next 30 days. The fund was created to protect users in the event of hacks or operational failures, and the shift represents a clear vote of confidence in bitcoin during a period of market stress.
The exchange said the decision reflects its belief in bitcoin’s long-term role as the foundation of the crypto ecosystem, even during sharp drawdowns.
Managing Volatility Risk
To offset bitcoin’s price volatility, Binance said it will actively audit and rebalance the fund. If the fund’s value falls below $800 million due to BTC price movements, Binance plans to top it back up to $1 billion.
This approach is designed to preserve the protective function of SAFU while holding it in a non-stablecoin asset.
Market Context
The move follows a broad market selloff that pushed bitcoin down roughly 7% in 24 hours to around $82,000. Ether, XRP, and Solana posted similar declines, while roughly $1.7 billion in leveraged crypto positions were liquidated, largely from long trades.
