A Bitcoin wallet dormant for nearly 12 years has reactivated, transferring 749 BTC currently worth $53.2 million. The wallet last moved funds in November 2012 when the Bitcoin was worth just $8,000.

Details of the Transfer

Blockchain data from Mempool shows that 159.2 BTC, or about $11.3 million, was transferred early Tuesday. The transfer included 124.2 BTC sent as change back to a wallet linked to the sender, while 35 BTC went to a different address, leaving the identity of the wallet owner unknown.

Dormant Bitcoin wallets waking up has been a trend this year. In July, a wallet holding 1,000 BTC from 2012 sent funds after more than a decade. With Bitcoin currently trading close to its all-time high, these reactivations highlight the substantial value growth for long-term holders.
