  • The initiative also includes research and an advisory council of quantum computing experts.

Galaxy has launched the Bitcoin Quantum Readiness Initiative, committing up to $5 million to fund developers working on post-quantum cryptography for Bitcoin. The initiative aims to help the network prepare for a future where quantum computers could eventually break the cryptography that secures Bitcoin wallets and transactions.

The program will fund work on quantum-resistant signature schemes, wallet migration tools, transaction upgrades, security audits, and other technical solutions. Galaxy is also creating a Quantum Advisory Council made up of leading experts while publishing ongoing research to help institutions, developers, and policymakers understand the risks.

Although no quantum computer today can break Bitcoin's cryptography, Galaxy says preparation must begin now because major Bitcoin upgrades can take years to design, review, and deploy. The initiative follows similar efforts from Coinbase, Strategy, Ethereum developers, and ongoing Bitcoin proposals focused on quantum resistance.
