Metaplanet Adds 150 BTC Worth $12.6M
Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has acquired an additional 150 BTC, bringing its total bitcoin holdings to 3,350 BTC. The company spent $12.6 million at an average price of $83,801 per bitcoin.
Eric Trump's Advisory Role Boosts Momentum
The purchase follows the recent appointment of Eric Trump to Metaplanet’s Strategic Board of Advisors. CEO Simon Gerovich said Trump's “passion for BTC” will help Metaplanet achieve its goal of becoming a global leader in corporate bitcoin treasuries.
Long-Term Bitcoin Accumulation Strategy
Metaplanet launched its bitcoin treasury strategy in April 2024, targeting 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by 2026. Its current holdings are valued at $291.3 million, up from a $278.8 million acquisition cost.
Market Response and Stock Performance
The Tokyo-listed firm's stock rose 4.8% following the announcement and has gained nearly 39% since the start of 2025. Metaplanet is now Asia’s largest public corporate holder of bitcoin, and tenth globally.
