Metaplanet Adds 497 BTC to Its Holdings
Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has intensified its bitcoin accumulation strategy, purchasing an additional 497 BTC for $43.9 million. This comes just two days after acquiring 156 BTC for $13.4 million, bringing its total holdings to 2,888 BTC.
Metaplanet disclosed that it acquired its BTC at an average price of $88,448 per bitcoin, pushing its total bitcoin investment to $240.2 million. With bitcoin currently trading at around $86,943, the firm’s holdings are now worth $251 million, resulting in unrealized profits.
Metaplanet’s Aggressive Bitcoin Strategy
The Tokyo-listed firm first announced its bitcoin treasury strategy in April 2024 and later designated bitcoin as a core business line in December. Since then, Metaplanet has pursued an aggressive accumulation plan, targeting 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025 and 21,000 BTC by 2026.
The firm's recent purchases reflect its confidence in bitcoin as a long-term investment. Bitcoin’s 4% price increase over the past 24 hours aligns with Metaplanet’s bet on the cryptocurrency’s continued adoption.
Stock Performance and Market Reaction
Metaplanet's stock surged 17% in Japan on Wednesday, reflecting investor optimism about its bitcoin strategy. Meanwhile, the Nikkei 225 index gained 0.55%, signaling broader market strength.
With bitcoin adoption growing among institutional investors, Metaplanet’s continued acquisitions position it as one of the most aggressive corporate bitcoin holders in Asia.
