Elon Musk’s SpaceX has officially revealed a massive bitcoin position as the company prepares for a potential public listing.

According to its newly filed S-1 registration with the SEC, SpaceX held 18,712 BTC as of December 31, acquired at a cost basis of roughly $661 million.

At current market prices, the holdings are now worth approximately $1.45 billion.

The disclosure places SpaceX among the world’s largest corporate bitcoin holders, ranking ahead of Coinbase and making it the seventh-largest public BTC treasury globally.

SpaceX originally began accumulating bitcoin in 2021 during the same period Tesla made headlines with its own $1.5 billion BTC purchase. Both companies later reduced portions of their holdings during market volatility and accounting-related pressures.

Interestingly, blockchain analytics platform Arkham had previously estimated SpaceX’s wallet holdings at around 8,280 BTC, suggesting the company may control additional reserves that were not publicly tracked.

The filing also highlighted SpaceX’s massive long-term ambitions, with the company estimating its total addressable market at $28.5 trillion.

The revelation adds to growing institutional adoption of bitcoin among major corporations, especially as digital assets become increasingly normalized within treasury strategies and public market structures.
