An Open Alternative for Bitcoin Miners

Tether has launched MiningOS, or MOS, an open-source operating system designed to manage bitcoin mining operations at scale. The company said the software gives miners an alternative to proprietary systems that often lock operators into vendor-controlled tools.

MiningOS is built to manage hardware coordination, energy usage, device health, and site-level infrastructure within a single operational layer. Tether said this approach reduces reliance on fragmented software stacks and centralized services.

Designed for Scale and Flexibility

According to Tether, MiningOS uses a modular, peer-to-peer architecture that can support everything from small home mining setups to large industrial facilities spread across multiple locations. The system is hardware-agnostic and released under an Apache 2.0 open-source license.

Tether also announced a Mining SDK that underpins MiningOS. The company said the SDK will be developed further with support from the open-source community in the coming months.

Part of a Broader Infrastructure Push

Tether’s move into mining software adds to its expanding footprint beyond USDT. The company reported more than $10 billion in net profit in 2025 and has increasingly invested in mining, payments, and infrastructure.

In recent months, Tether has launched products tied to tokenized commodities, expanded its bitcoin mining exposure, and rolled out a US-focused stablecoin called USAT, positioning itself as a broader crypto infrastructure provider.
