The launch follows the UK reopening retail access to crypto ETPs
21Shares has listed a new exchange-traded product on the London Stock Exchange that combines Bitcoin and gold into a single investment vehicle. The product, developed with ByteTree Asset Management and trading under the ticker BOLD, is the first UK-listed ETP to give retail investors regulated exposure to both a crypto asset and a traditional safe haven.
The product follows a rules-based strategy that rebalances once a month. Instead of keeping a fixed split, it adjusts exposure based on historical volatility, allocating more weight to whichever asset has been more stable. This approach is designed to balance Bitcoin’s growth potential with gold’s defensive characteristics.
BOLD is physically backed, with the underlying assets held in cold storage by an institutional custodian. It trades in British pounds, carries a 0.65% annual management fee, and had just over $40 million in assets under management as of January 12.
The launch comes after a major regulatory shift in the UK. In October 2025, the Financial Conduct Authority lifted a four-year ban that had prevented retail investors from accessing crypto exchange-traded notes. Since then, crypto ETP trading volumes on the LSE have risen sharply, and several large asset managers, including BlackRock, have expanded their UK offerings.
