Central Bank Signals Possible Regulatory Shift
Argentina’s central bank is evaluating changes to its rule that prohibits banks from trading cryptocurrencies or providing crypto services. According to La Nacion, the updated framework could be approved by April 2026.
This shift would mark a major evolution in Argentina’s financial landscape, giving banks direct access to digital asset markets.
Path to Mass Adoption
Local experts and exchanges believe opening crypto access through banks would accelerate mainstream adoption. Argentines already rely heavily on digital assets in response to inflation and capital controls, making the country one of the most active crypto markets globally.
Between 2022 and 2025, Argentina generated nearly $94 billion in crypto transaction volume, second only to Brazil in Latin America.
Regional Context and Regulatory Momentum
Brazil recently expanded its financial regulations to cover crypto service providers, aligning oversight with traditional financial rules. With both markets progressing, Latin America could see a more unified regulatory environment for digital assets.
