New Trading Tool: Binance launched a private Indication of Interest (IOI) feature for large spot and loan orders via its OTC desk.
-
Traditional Finance Integration: The IOI system, common in traditional financial markets, allows institutional traders to privately signal their intent to trade large volumes.
-
Minimizing Market Impact: The tool is designed to help traders, typically moving $200,000+ per transaction, execute sizable deals without revealing their interest on public order books and causing price slippage.
-
Private Matching: The IOI is non-binding and is only visible to the OTC desk, which then privately searches for counterparties, ensuring sensitive trading intentions remain confidential.
Binance Brings Traditional Finance IOI to Crypto
Binance has introduced a private Indication of Interest (IOI) feature for large spot and loan orders, making it the first crypto exchange to bring this traditional financial system tool to digital assets. The feature is specifically designed to help institutional users execute sizable trades without disrupting public markets. The IOI allows a trader to privately signal their intent to buy, sell, borrow, or lend a large amount of crypto without placing an order on the public order book.
Solving the Liquidity Challenge for Large Trades
Executing large orders in crypto can often lead to price slippage and widened spreads because even mid- and small-cap tokens often have relatively thin liquidity. The private IOI feature aims to close this gap in crypto trading infrastructure by letting institutional clients and high-net-worth users, who typically transact at minimum sizes of around $200,000, gauge liquidity and negotiate terms privately through Binance’s Over-The-Counter (OTC) desk.
How the Private Process Works
When a user submits a non-binding IOI specifying the asset and size, the OTC desk takes the request and privately searches for potential matching counterparties. This privacy is the key benefit, as it protects the user's sensitive trading intentions and helps prevent market disruption. If a match is found, Binance contacts the user to confirm and finalize the terms, with spot trades settling directly to their account. The IOI system is distinct from the existing Request-For-Quote (RFQ) feature, as IOIs are intended for less standard, large-block requests and do not have short expiration times.
