Coinbase is undergoing its most aggressive transformation in its 13-year history, officially pivoting from a crypto-only platform to a comprehensive "everything exchange." The rollout is designed to consolidate multiple asset classes—including stocks, derivatives, and event-based contracts—into a single, always-on financial app that rivals both traditional neobanks and decentralized protocols.
Stocks and the Future of Tokenization
A major pillar of this expansion is the integration of stock trading for U.S. users. Trading is commission-free and features extended hours (24/5), allowing users to manage equities alongside their crypto portfolios using USDC for seamless settlement. While currently focusing on traditional spot equities, Coinbase is positioning this as a precursor to Coinbase Tokenize, an institutional platform set for 2026 that will support the management of tokenized real-world assets.
Prediction Markets and Solana DEX Access
Coinbase is also entering the prediction market space via a partnership with Kalshi, allowing users to trade on the outcomes of real-world events. Simultaneously, the exchange is deepening its ties to the Solana ecosystem by integrating Jupiter, the network's leading DEX aggregator. This allows Coinbase users to trade millions of Solana-native assets instantly, without leaving the app or managing external wallets. To round out the ecosystem, the firm introduced Coinbase Advisor, an AI assistant to help users navigate their portfolios, and Coinbase Business, a crypto-native banking alternative for startups and small enterprises.
