Direct Banking Access Arrives

Coinbase has launched direct banking support for Indian rupee transactions, allowing customers in India to deposit and withdraw funds directly through the country's Immediate Payment Service.

The exchange said users will no longer need to rely on peer-to-peer networks or third-party intermediaries to move money between bank accounts and crypto markets. Coinbase has also introduced dedicated INR order books to provide localized liquidity for traders.

The move represents one of Coinbase's most significant product expansions in India since re-entering the market.

Perpetual Futures Included

In addition to spot trading, Coinbase confirmed that eligible Indian customers will have access to perpetual futures contracts covering major cryptocurrencies. More advanced users can also utilize Coinbase Advanced, which includes institutional-grade APIs, enhanced trading functionality, and real-time order book data streams.

The company said the expansion is designed to provide Indian traders with a more complete set of products while improving overall market accessibility.

India Remains a Strategic Market

The launch follows Coinbase's successful registration with India's Financial Intelligence Unit, a key regulatory requirement for operating within the country. Coinbase previously resumed onboarding Indian users in late 2025 after spending more than two years largely absent from the market due to regulatory challenges.

The exchange has also invested in Indian crypto infrastructure through its backing of CoinDCX and developer initiatives tied to Base. According to Coinbase, more than 4,000 builders in India have already created projects on the Ethereum Layer 2 network.

India continues to rank among the world's most active crypto markets, maintaining the top position in global crypto adoption rankings for the third consecutive year.
