- Coinbase secured a new UK investment license.
- The exchange will add equities and derivatives trading.
- The move supports its "everything exchange" strategy.
- The UK remains a key market for Coinbase.
Coinbase has received authorization from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority to provide investment services, allowing the exchange to expand beyond cryptocurrency into traditional financial markets.
The new license enables institutional clients to trade crypto, equity, and commodity perpetual futures, while retail users will gain access to stock trading directly through the Coinbase platform.
The company described the approval as its biggest UK expansion since entering the market and another step toward becoming an "everything exchange" that combines crypto, payments, savings, borrowing, derivatives, and equities under one platform.
Coinbase said it chose to deepen its investment in the UK because of the country's increasingly supportive regulatory approach to digital assets.
The authorization comes ahead of the UK's comprehensive crypto regulatory framework, which is scheduled to take effect in October 2027.
