Coinbase Expands in Asia

Coinbase has announced a strategic investment in CoinDCX, one of India’s largest crypto exchanges, at a $2.45 billion valuation. While terms weren’t disclosed, the move builds on Coinbase Ventures’ previous funding of CoinDCX since 2020.

“India and the Middle East are set to play a big role in the future of crypto,” said Coinbase’s Chief Business Officer Shan Aggarwal. “CoinDCX is well-positioned for scale in this region’s next growth phase.”

A Strong Regional Player

CoinDCX currently serves over 20 million users, processes $165 billion in annualized trading volume, and holds more than $1.2 billion in assets under custody. Despite past security incidents, including a $44 million hack in July, the company remains financially sound and regulatory compliant.

Strategic Impact

For Coinbase, the move extends its influence in regions where crypto adoption is rapidly growing but local exchanges dominate. The partnership could help introduce Coinbase products to Indian and Middle Eastern markets while reinforcing its global brand as regulatory clarity improves in the U.S.
