Coinbase Returns to the Indian Market
Coinbase has reopened its app to Indian users for the first time in more than two years, according to TechCrunch. The exchange initially launched an early-access program in October and has now enabled full user registrations.
For now, users can only trade crypto-to-crypto pairs. A full fiat on-ramp is targeted for 2026 as the company works to rebuild compliant infrastructure.
Regulatory Engagement Enables Reentry
The exchange previously halted operations after losing access to the Unified Payments Interface in 2022 and later suspended all local services in 2023. Since then, Coinbase has actively worked with regulators, including registering with India’s Financial Intelligence Unit to meet AML requirements.
Coinbase also invested in CoinDCX as part of a broader expansion strategy across India and the Middle East.
India Leads Global Crypto Adoption
India ranked first globally for crypto adoption for the third straight year, driven by high user engagement and strong grassroots demand. Other global exchanges like Binance and Bybit have also re-entered the market, reinforcing India’s importance in the global crypto landscape.
