Canton Network Developer Pursues Major Funding Round

Digital Asset is reportedly seeking to raise approximately $300 million at a valuation near $2 billion.

According to reports, the round is expected to be led by Andreessen Horowitz’s crypto division, commonly known as a16z crypto.

If completed, the raise would become Digital Asset’s largest funding round to date and would further strengthen investor confidence in institutional blockchain infrastructure.

What Makes Canton Different

The Canton Network is designed specifically for institutional finance and differs significantly from public blockchains like Ethereum or Solana.

While most public blockchains prioritize transparency, Canton focuses heavily on configurable privacy and confidentiality features. This allows financial institutions to process tokenized assets and execute transactions while keeping sensitive financial information private.

The network uses Digital Asset’s Daml smart contract language and is intended to support tokenized financial workflows across banks, trading firms, payment companies, and asset managers.

Major Institutions Are Already Participating

Canton has attracted participation from several large financial institutions and infrastructure providers, including Visa, Goldman Sachs, DTCC, Nasdaq, and BNY Mellon.

Visa recently joined the network as a validator while also integrating Canton into its expanding stablecoin settlement initiatives. According to prior reporting, more than $6 trillion in tokenized assets have already been issued or processed through the network.

This growing institutional participation has helped position Canton as one of the leading blockchain ecosystems focused specifically on traditional finance integration.

Crypto Venture Capital Remains Selective

The potential fundraising round comes during a mixed period for crypto venture capital markets.

While major firms such as a16z and Haun Ventures continue raising billions for crypto investments, the total number of startup funding deals has fallen sharply compared to previous years.

Investors increasingly appear focused on infrastructure, institutional adoption, stablecoins, tokenization, AI integration, and blockchain privacy systems rather than speculative consumer crypto applications.

For Digital Asset, the timing may prove favorable as traditional financial institutions continue exploring blockchain technology for settlement, tokenization, and cross-border financial operations.
