MetaMask now lets users create wallets with Google or Apple accounts.

The feature manages the Secret Recovery Phrase (SRP) in the background.

Users must still safeguard their password, as MetaMask cannot restore it.
New Wallet Option
MetaMask introduced a social login feature allowing users to create, back up, and restore wallets using Google or Apple accounts. This simplifies onboarding for people new to self-custody wallets.
How It Works
Instead of manually writing down a 12-word recovery phrase, users create a password tied to their social login. The SRP is generated in the background and can later be retrieved via the same login credentials. However, if users lose their password, the wallet cannot be recovered.
Maintaining Self-Custody
MetaMask stressed that it does not hold users’ SRPs. Only the user’s password provides access, preserving self-custody principles. The company says the feature lowers barriers to entry while keeping wallets secure and private.
