Self-Custody Meets Traditional Payments

MetaMask has partnered with Mastercard to launch a nationwide U.S. crypto payment card that emphasizes self-custody.

Unlike custodial crypto cards that require users to preload funds onto centralized exchanges, the MetaMask Card allows users to retain control of assets in their wallet until the transaction is executed. The card is powered by Monavate and works anywhere Mastercard is accepted, including Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Onchain Rewards Model

Users earn cashback rewards in MetaMask’s mUSD stablecoin. Standard cardholders receive 1% cashback, while premium users can earn up to 3% on the first $10,000 spent annually.

mUSD is issued by Stripe-owned Bridge and minted through decentralized infrastructure, backed 1:1 by high-quality dollar-equivalent assets. The launch reflects growing demand for crypto-native spending tools that bridge decentralized wallets with traditional retail payments.
