Eric Trump Joins Bitcoin-Focused Metaplanet's Strategic Board
Japan-based Metaplanet has appointed Eric Trump to its Strategic Board of Advisors as the company continues building one of the world’s largest corporate bitcoin treasuries. Trump’s role will focus on expanding Metaplanet’s presence in digital assets, with CEO Simon Gerovich calling him a "leading voice" in crypto adoption.
Trump’s background in real estate, finance, and branding is expected to help Metaplanet increase its visibility globally, especially in the U.S., where Bitcoin policy is under growing political scrutiny.
Metaplanet’s Growing Bitcoin Strategy
Metaplanet, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, recently bought 150 BTC, bringing its holdings to 3,200 BTC, making it the 10th-largest corporate bitcoin holder. The company aims to accumulate 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025.
Eric Trump’s appointment could accelerate this strategy while boosting the company’s public profile, especially amid increasing institutional interest in Bitcoin. Metaplanet shares rose 1.3% during Friday trading in Japan following the announcement.
Ties to Other Crypto Ventures and Political Questions
Trump also serves as an ambassador for World Liberty Financial, a crypto project that lists several Trump family members—including Donald Jr. and Barron Trump—as figureheads. While the project markets President Trump as its "chief crypto advocate," its white paper states the family is not involved in operations or ownership.
Eric Trump’s dual involvement in both public crypto ventures and his father’s administration could raise concerns about conflicts of interest, particularly in light of the U.S. president’s pro-crypto regulatory stance.
