X Layer Introduces Exchange OS
X Layer, the EVM-compatible Layer 2 blockchain backed by OKX, unveiled a major infrastructure upgrade called Exchange OS.
According to the announcement, the new system enables developers, institutions, and ecosystem participants to deploy their own crypto trading venues directly on X Layer.
The infrastructure supports spot trading, perpetual futures, and outcome markets while using the same core technology stack that powers OKX’s own exchange systems.
Shared Infrastructure for Onchain Markets
X Layer said Exchange OS is designed to solve one of the main problems facing onchain finance today: fragmented infrastructure.
The team argued that developers are often forced to choose between relying on centralized exchange systems or rebuilding complex market infrastructure from scratch.
To address this, Exchange OS moves critical exchange functions directly to the protocol layer, including matching engines, margining, liquidation systems, settlement, and risk management.
Users can customize trading models and market structures through the XIP-Exchange OS proposal framework while operating within a shared liquidity environment.
Unified Accounts Across Markets
The upgrade also introduces unified accounts and shared margin systems across spot, perpetual, and outcome markets.
According to X Layer, traders will be able to use the same capital pool across multiple market types instead of fragmenting funds between separate products.
The platform said this setup allows participants to express views on AI, macroeconomic events, sports, and tokenized assets through multiple market structures simultaneously.
World Cup Prediction Markets Coming Next
As part of the rollout, X Layer announced plans to launch “2026 World Cup Outcomes” next month.
The product will function as a simulated prediction market focused on the FIFA World Cup jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The team said it wants to demonstrate the infrastructure in production before opening the system more broadly to developers and external market operators.
X Layer added that broader rollout phases for Exchange OS will continue gradually through governance proposals and ecosystem expansion.
