PayPal Rolls Out Links for Peer-to-Peer Payments
PayPal announced a new feature called PayPal Links, aimed at simplifying peer-to-peer payments and extending support for cryptocurrencies. Users will soon be able to send Bitcoin, Ethereum, and PayPal’s stablecoin PYUSD, along with other tokens, to a wide range of digital wallets.
The feature builds on the company’s long-standing presence in digital payments. Unlike standard crypto transactions, PayPal confirmed that transfers between friends and family on Venmo and PayPal will remain tax-exempt, ensuring users won’t face unnecessary paperwork for gifts, reimbursements, or shared expenses.
How the Links Feature Works
PayPal Links function as personalized, one-time links that specify payment amounts, notes, and even emojis. When recipients accept, funds are transferred instantly. Unclaimed requests expire within 10 days, and reminders can be sent for outstanding payments.
This update refines the older PayPal Me system, which required users to enter their own payment amount. By streamlining requests, PayPal aims to expand its role in digital transactions while keeping personal payments simple and private.
Global Expansion Plans
The rollout will start in the United States, with expansion to the UK and other markets later this month. According to PayPal, P2P payments grew 10% year-over-year in Q2 2025, while Venmo recorded its highest total payment volume in three years.
PayPal’s broader crypto ambitions remain central to its strategy. Its stablecoin PYUSD—now the 11th largest with a $1.3 billion market cap—is already integrated into its Pay with Crypto service for small businesses.
