Key Highlights:
  • Prediction markets recorded $814 million in daily volume

  • January trading is close to breaking the monthly record

  • Platform fees and revenue hit all-time highs

  • Competition is intensifying as new platforms gain traction

Prediction markets are on track to set a new monthly trading record after logging more than $814 million in volume in a single day. Data from Dune Analytics shows that total trading volume in January has already reached around $10.5 billion, with more than a third of the month still remaining.

Kalshi remains the largest platform by volume, accounting for more than $535 million in daily trading during the record session. Polymarket followed with roughly $127 million, while Opinion, a newer platform backed by Changpeng Zhao’s YZi Labs, generated about $84 million and continues to gain market share.

Rising volumes are translating directly into higher revenue. Weekly fees across prediction market platforms climbed above $2.7 million, the highest level on record. Opinion accounted for more than half of that total, while Polymarket generated the majority of its fees from short-dated markets that settle within minutes.

The surge has pushed prediction markets above 1% of total spot crypto trading volume for the first time, marking a key milestone for a sector that was previously a niche corner of crypto markets.

Research firms say prediction markets are entering a new phase of visibility, driven by growing retail interest, new product designs, and attention from major financial institutions. Coinbase has begun rolling out access to event-based contracts, while banks such as Goldman Sachs are reportedly exploring the space as regulation evolves.
