A New Push for Privacy on Ethereum

The Ethereum Foundation has unveiled a major new initiative called the Privacy Cluster — a team of 47 specialists working to enhance user privacy across the Ethereum network. The group is coordinated by Igor Barinov, known for founding Blockscout and xDai.

In a statement, the foundation said its goal is to make privacy a “first-class property” of Ethereum, strengthening user protection against surveillance and data leaks. The team will work alongside existing community projects to achieve this.

Roadmap for Confidentiality

The Privacy Cluster will expand on the foundation’s previous Privacy & Scaling Explorations team and focus on research and tooling for encryption, zero-knowledge proofs, and private transactions.

Their work will target both Layer 1 and application-level improvements, including confidential transfers, private wallets, and identity solutions. The foundation said privacy is essential to Ethereum’s long-term credibility as the foundation of digital trust.
