New Strategic Focus for Protocol Team
The Ethereum Foundation has restructured its Protocol R&D division, now simply called “Protocol,” with a focus on Layer 1 scaling, improving blobspace, and enhancing the user experience. The overhaul aims to align Ethereum development with long-term infrastructure goals.
Leadership and Staffing Changes
Tim Beiko and Ansgar Dietrichs will lead Layer 1 scaling, while others will tackle improvements in data availability and UX. The reorganization resulted in staff reductions, with Core Developer Danno Ferrin stating at least four engineers were let go.
Addressing Community Criticism
The changes come in response to community criticism regarding Ethereum’s research pace and strategic clarity. New leadership appointments include Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz Stańczak as co-executive directors. Former director Aya Miyaguchi is now foundation president.
Ethereum’s Long-Term Mission
The Foundation believes the changes will accelerate Ethereum’s development into global financial infrastructure. Beiko summarized the mission on X: “The world is ready for the world computer. It’s on us to deliver it.”
