Pectra Fork Goes Live on Hoodi
Ethereum developers successfully deployed the long-awaited Pectra upgrade to the Hoodi testnet on Wednesday. The smooth fork sets the stage for a mainnet launch, possibly as early as late April or May.
Why Hoodi Matters
After failed attempts on Holesky and Sepolia testnets — which suffered from synchronization issues and exit queue bugs — developers created Hoodi as a clean-slate environment. It has now finalized without issues.
What Pectra Brings to Ethereum
The upgrade includes several major Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs):
-
EIP-7702: Wallet UX improvements and account abstraction
-
EIP-7251: Increases validator stake cap from 32 to 2,048 ETH
-
EIP-7691: Boosts rollup scalability via higher blob count
These changes target both validator efficiency and Ethereum’s rollup ecosystem.
Mainnet Launch Timeline
If no bugs are found, developers suggest a 30-day buffer before Pectra goes live on mainnet. Depending on feedback and testing, that could mean activation in late April, May, or June.
