Ethereum Overtakes Bitcoin in Spot Volumes
Ethereum reached a milestone in August when its spot trading volume on centralized exchanges overtook bitcoin’s for the first time in over seven years. Data shows ETH trading hit nearly $480 billion compared to BTC’s $401 billion, breaking a long-standing dominance.
Treasury and ETF Demand Accelerates ETH Momentum
The shift was fueled by major corporate treasuries like BitMine Immersion and SharpLink Gaming adding billions in ETH, as well as heavy inflows into U.S. spot ETH ETFs. In August alone, ether ETFs saw $3.95 billion in net inflows, while bitcoin ETFs recorded $301 million in outflows.
Market Outlook Moving Into Q4
Ethereum has surged more than 105% year-to-date, far outpacing bitcoin’s 18% gains. Analysts believe that with BTC whales rotating into ETH and the possibility of U.S. rate cuts later this year, Ethereum could see fresh all-time highs in Q4.
