- Base suffered another temporary network halt.
- Block production resumed within about 40 minutes.
- The issue followed Thursday's longer outage.
- No user funds were reported at risk.
Coinbase-backed Layer 2 network Base experienced its second mainnet disruption in just two days after block production temporarily stopped on Friday.
The issue began shortly after 15:30 UTC, with Base confirming it was investigating the problem before restoring block production less than an hour later. Node operators were instructed to restart their nodes to resume syncing with the network.
The outage followed a larger incident on Thursday, when an invalid block caused the network's sequencer to halt for roughly two hours. Although user funds remained safe, withdrawals were temporarily interrupted.
Both incidents occurred around the rollout of Base's Beryl upgrade, which introduced the new B20 token standard, faster withdrawals to Ethereum, and several network improvements.
Despite the disruptions, Base confirmed that the Beryl upgrade was successfully activated. The team has not yet provided a detailed explanation for the repeated outages.
The incidents highlight the technical challenges that can accompany major blockchain upgrades, even on rapidly growing Layer 2 networks.
