- Crypto hacks exceeded $1 billion during the first half of 2026.
- North Korea-linked hackers stole nearly $600 million.
- Blockaid expects AI-powered crypto attacks to increase later this year.
Crypto projects lost more than $1 billion to hacks during the first half of 2026, according to a new report from blockchain security firm Blockaid.
While total losses remained below last year's figure due to the massive Bybit exploit, Blockaid said H1 2026 recorded the highest number of successful crypto attacks ever seen in a six-month period.
The report estimates that North Korea-linked hacking groups were responsible for nearly $600 million in stolen funds, including major attacks targeting Drift and KelpDAO.
Ethereum and Solana experienced the largest financial losses among all blockchains, with attackers continuing to target high-value DeFi protocols and wallet infrastructure.
Looking ahead, Blockaid expects attacks involving artificial intelligence to become increasingly common as AI agents handle more onchain activity and financial transactions.
