The UK government has released a roadmap aimed at making the country a global leader in tokenized finance, with officials estimating the initiative could generate up to £33 billion in annual economic output by 2035.

The strategy focuses on expanding tokenized financial markets, including government bonds, stablecoins, tokenized collateral, and onchain settlement infrastructure.

One of the roadmap's main goals is launching the country's first tokenized government bond through the Digital Gilt Instrument (DIGIT) pilot during the first quarter of 2027.

The report also highlights the need for modern payment infrastructure, legal clarity, tax standards, and interoperability between tokenized assets and traditional financial systems to encourage institutional adoption.

Industry participants welcomed the roadmap, saying faster settlement and stronger digital payment infrastructure will be critical for the next stage of tokenized finance.
