Goal is stronger regulation, innovation, and market collaboration across both countries.
A New Transatlantic Effort
The US Treasury and the UK’s finance ministry have launched the “Transatlantic Taskforce for the Markets of the Future.” The initiative brings together US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves to shape the future of digital asset regulation.
The task force will study ways to coordinate oversight of crypto markets, looking at both short- and medium-term policy actions. A report with recommendations is expected within 180 days.
Industry Input Included
The group will work closely with crypto companies and financial firms to ensure practical recommendations. Representatives from Circle, Citi, Coinbase, Ripple, Bank of America, and Barclays have already been involved in early discussions.
Support from Crypto Firms
Circle’s chief strategy officer, Dante Disparte, called the task force a “pivotal step forward” for safer and more resilient markets. Coinbase also welcomed the move, saying it could bring more liquidity and open capital markets.
Why It Matters
The partnership marks a shift toward regulatory harmonization between two of the world’s largest financial markets. By aligning rules and encouraging innovation, the US and UK hope to foster deeper adoption of digital assets while ensuring stronger investor protections.
