FIFA to Leave Algorand and Polygon
Football’s global governing body FIFA is building its own blockchain. The new EVM-compatible network will soon become the exclusive home of FIFA Collect, the official NFT series showcasing World Cup moments.
The new network, dubbed the FIFA Blockchain, marks a departure from previous platforms like Algorand and Polygon, where the NFT collection originally launched and later expanded.
Migration Begins Late May
According to FIFA’s official FAQ, the migration is scheduled to begin no earlier than May 20. FIFA says the move aims to “support new experiences, enable wallet compatibility, and provide stronger foundations for future innovations.”
Users will no longer need Algorand-native wallets. Going forward, only EVM-compatible wallets like MetaMask will be supported.
From World Cups to Web3
FIFA Collect debuted in 2022 as a way to capture iconic football moments on-chain. Initially backed by Algorand, it later integrated with Polygon to expand reach. Now, FIFA appears ready to fully embrace decentralized infrastructure by managing its own blockchain layer.
