LDP Approves Financial Modernization Plan

Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party formally approved a new policy proposal focused on building a next-generation financial infrastructure powered by blockchain and artificial intelligence.

The proposal, titled “Next-generation AI & Onchain Finance Concept,” was developed by a project team led by party member Seiji Kihara.

Focus on Agentic Commerce

The plan prioritizes automated financial systems capable of supporting 24/7 AI-driven commerce using blockchain networks.

According to the proposal, AI agents will increasingly handle purchasing decisions autonomously, making blockchain technology valuable due to its transparency, programmability, and tamper-resistant design.

Stablecoins and Tokenized Deposits Included

The proposal also supports tokenized bank deposits and Japanese yen-denominated stablecoins. Officials emphasized the need for stronger legal clarity and safeguards to reduce systemic financial risks.

The plan additionally supports ongoing stablecoin initiatives involving Japan’s major banking groups.

Government Coordination Begins

The proposal now moves into the implementation phase, where the ruling party will coordinate with regulators and private-sector participants to transform the concept into official government policy.

Japan’s Financial Services Agency is expected to help develop a five-year roadmap supporting blockchain and AI investment initiatives.
