President Donald Trump sent the Official Trump memecoin surging on Sunday after promoting it on Truth Social. In a rare direct endorsement, he called the token “SO COOL” and “The Greatest of them all.”
Price Spike Followed by Swift Correction
The post sparked a surge in trading volume and a 11% price jump to $12.11, adding $400 million in market value. However, the price quickly corrected to $11.46, with the token retaining about $100 million of those gains.
Memecoin Market Reactions
The Melania Meme token, launched alongside the Trump coin in January, didn’t share the momentum. It fell 4.8% over the past 24 hours, according to The Block.
Regulatory Concerns Grow
Trump's promotion rekindled political criticism. A Democratic lawmaker previously proposed legislation barring public officials and their families from sponsoring tokens. Trump has maintained he is not deeply involved with the coin, despite being listed as its creator.
